October 2023 Subversion Progress Update!

Hey folks!
Thanks for your patience while we work behind the scenes to get Subversion up and running! As you may have noticed, one faction (Clifton Lambert, AKA Mr. Johnson) within Fragging Unicorns has been hard at work getting their newest project, Hellslayers, to a Kickstarter launch, and so there have been lots of updates about that project. But Subversion is why you pledged! So here's the latest.
Updates have been scarce mostly because Opti (me) had some hard life stuff happening since April. Given the choice between being good on social media and making sure life and Subversion kept happening behind the scenes, I choose the latter. I simply didn't have the wherewithal to pull off interacting online. That isn't an excuse, though. Y'all deserve updates and I let you down. However, I have weathered the storm, and have tried my darndest to get back into a good place, and we're trucking along again.
Pledge Level Specifics
The rules have become solidified enough that we no longer fear changes that will throw off character building. So...
Original Characters and Factions: There are a few pledge levels that allowed folks to create factions or characters within the game, and as of now, those emails have been sent out, so if you are one of those folks, please look for them and respond. The sooner you do, the easier it will be for us to integrate your characters and factions.
Play With Us: There are also a number of you who pledged to play a game with the devs and have those characters and stories make it into canon stories. The scheduling emails have been sent out for those as well, so please respond as soon as you can so we can get that ball rolling as well.
Obsidian Portal, Roll20, Foundry: Now that the rules are pretty solid, we have a few other things to tie up before starting the process of integrating with Obsidian Portal, Roll20, and Foundry, so we will update everyone on that progress as it happens.
Backerkit Pledge Manager
There are still a number of you who haven't filled out the Backerkit surveys that allow us to fulfill your pledge rewards. It is past the deadline to do so, but we'd like to keep the door open as long as possible for everyone possible to get their rewards, and we've had it happen in the past where people just don't check, don't take the survey, or didn't check spam filters, and missed out on rewards (or got them very late) and we don't want that to happen to you. So if you are one of the 30 or so people who haven't replied to the Subversion Backerkit survey, please do (or reach out to us if you can't find that email).
Subversion Core Book Progress
This is the exciting part! The mechanics are pretty much done. Lots of playtesting over the summer at cons and various playtest groups have given us GREAT feedback and it is now incorporated. The first section of the book (out of 5) is now in layout and pretty much complete. The second section is ready to go to layout as well. Art is nearly complete, and what we have left if pretty much arranging some sections, tightening up some lore and world-building, and fleshing out some NPCs and factions. We are still on track for a December release!
Small Bits
There are a few more things I want to mention, but I think I'll save them for another update soon, but in passing, here are a few things:
- You can download the latest Subversion rules build (v.56) here. Any feedback still welcome!
- We are looking for GMs/Demo Agents. If you'd like to run Subversion at conventions (either the big ones like GenCon or Origins, or smaller cons near you), please let us know and we'll get you books and swag and help facilitate that however we can, including con passes, etc.
- Reminder about our Fragging Unicorns discord channel, where you can discuss Subversion and our other games: https://discord.gg/ayyPYmSuQy
Thanks, folks! More to come later!
